Team Physician, Belgian National Football Team | Specialist in Sports Medicine and Joint Preservation
Dr. Kristof Sas is a leading sports medicine physician with a deep-rooted focus on football-related injuries and joint preservation in athletic patients. After ending his professional football career in 2005, he transitioned into sports medicine, serving as team physician for top Belgian clubs, including RSC Anderlecht and Club Brugge. He currently holds the position of team physician for the Belgian national team (“Red Devils”) and acts as medical consultant for Royal Antwerp FC.
A graduate of KU Leuven, Dr. Sas has developed expertise in the management of muscle injuries, tendinopathies, and early-stage osteoarthritis, using both conservative and biologic strategies. He is internationally recognized for his skill in ultrasound-guided PRP injections and is actively involved in research on adipose-derived stem cell therapy.
In parallel with his clinical work, he practices emergency medicine at AZ Glorieux Hospital and serves as Vice President of the Belgian Football Doctors and Associates (BFDA). Dr. Sas is engaged in clinical trials on scaffolds, marrow stimulation, and biologic augmentations for joint repair. Within ICRS and ESSKA, he contributes to education and guideline development, always emphasizing individualized, sport-specific treatment strategies for optimal outcomes.
