Director, Orthopaedic Biotechnology Lab, IRCCS Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute | Milan, Italy

Dr. Laura de Girolamo is a prominent biomedical researcher specializing in orthobiologics, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering. Based at the IRCCS Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute in Milan, she leads the Orthopaedic Biotechnology Laboratory, where her work bridges molecular biology and clinical orthopaedics through cutting-edge translational research.

Her primary scientific focus is on cell-based therapies, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and biomaterial scaffolds for musculoskeletal repair. Her lab investigates these technologies in both preclinical and clinical settings, supporting evidence-based innovation in cartilage and joint preservation.

Dr. de Girolamo is Chair of the Basic Science Committee of the International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation Society (ICRS) and co-author of the 2024 ESSKA Consensus on Cell-Based Therapies for Knee Osteoarthritis. She is an active contributor to multicenter studies and research networks focused on biologics in orthopaedics.

An esteemed educator and frequent invited speaker, Dr. de Girolamo shares her expertise globally at leading orthopedic, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine congresses. With a passion for translational science and education, she plays a vital role in shaping the future of biologic strategies in joint preservation.
